Elliott Murphy’s Rock Dreams

Elliott Murphy's Rock Dreams

Elliott Murphy’s truly phantasmagorical collection of his latest series of Rock Dreams is now available on Amazon in both Paperback and Kindle editions with an Audiobook promised soon. As some of you might remember, Elliott started posting his dreams on Facebook intermittently the last few years (one-hundred-forty-five in total!) and the response was positively wild with many fans requesting that Elliott’s nocturnal adventures someday be put into earthbound book form so they might keep it on their bedside table before trekking off onto the dreamscape of Murphyland. So, wake up Elliott and explain it yourself:

“Once upon a time I dreamt of becoming a rock star and soon after that kind of happened, a strange phenomenon began occurring wherein when I would sleep my dreams began to be inhabited nightly by rock stars, film stars and celebrities from all walks of life. Honestly, I didn’t ask for any of them to invade my sacred dream space, but you know how celebrities are – if we’re not talking about them, they want to change the subject… apparently until we are dreaming about them.

There’s a word in the scientific lexicon for the study of dreams – oneirology – and if there are any amateur or professional oneirologists out there, I’d love to hear your own interpretations. For half a century, I was always meaning to write down my dreams upon awaking because, as most of you fellow dreamers know, holding on to a dream is like trying to hold on to dry sand on the beach as they will quickly slip through the fingers of your consciousness to disappear and return to wherever they came from deep in the land of Morpheus. If not quickly written down dreams can be lost forever although I’m not sure if that matters. There are always new dreams waiting in the wings…

Anyway, time was running out when I finally made the decision a few years ago to begin documenting my deep sleep adventures. Without even sipping a cup of coffee to lubricate my anarchic writing technique, I hopped out of bed and hastily scribbled down (although admittedly  on my laptop) whatever film was still playing in my head before the credits began to roll.

So here they are, the latest batch, fresh from Elliott Murphy’s unconscious universe; rounded up and corralled in one volume under the title Elliott Murphy’s Rock Dreams to delineate them from anyone else’s.

Author’s note: The charismatic characters who inhabit my dreams should not be confused with any real persons whose names they might share. Try to think of them all as imaginary celebrities from an alternative reality.

In that spirit, please let me introduce you to at least a few of the fictional stars of my nocturnal theater:

The Beatles, Tom Petty, Bruce SpringsteenBob Dylan, Billy Joel, Jerry Garcia, Pete Townshend, Elton John, Mick Jagger, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Emmylou Harris, Marianne Faithful, The Ramones, Blondie, Jackson Browne, Rick Rubin, Talking Heads, Lou Reed, Andy Warhol, Jimi Hendrix, Keith Richards, Pdiddy, Joni Mitchell, Ringo Starr, Elvis, Bjork, Madonna, Aretha Franklin, BB King, Frank Sinatra, Taylor Swift, Sting, Snoop Dog, The Rolling Stones, Bob Marley, Dusty Springfield, Joni Mitchell, Ray Davies, Bono, Leonard Cohen, Stevie Nicks, Crosby, Stills And Nash, Neil Young, Beck, Abel Ferrara, Motley Cruë, John Wayne, Quincy Jones, Link Wray, Mickey Mouse and (of course) many more…
